Every repair is priced after we've seen the piece — an honest quote, never a guess. As a frame of reference: chain and clasp repairs typically run $35–$75, ring resizing $75–$300 depending on metal and band width, and prong retipping $60–$150 per prong. Heirloom reconstruction and custom work is quoted per project, in writing, before we begin.

How long will my repair take?

Simple bench work — solders, sizings, stone tightening — is often finished within a few days. Anything structural on an heirloom receives full documentation and careful bench time, but nothing stays with us longer than three weeks. Rush timelines can be arranged when the bench allows.

Question 3

Can every ring be resized?

Accepted Answer

Most rings move up or down one to two sizes comfortably. Eternity bands with stones set all the way around, channel settings, and tension-set rings usually can't be resized without damage — and titanium or tungsten bands can't be resized at all. We'll tell you honestly before touching the piece.

What is prong retipping — and how do I know I need it?

Prongs are the small metal claws that hold your stone. After years of daily wear they thin out and flatten. The warning signs: the ring snags on sweaters, the prong tips look flat or shiny, or the stone rocks slightly when pressed. Retipping rebuilds the claw with matched metal well before the stone is at risk.

My stone is loose — how urgent is that?

Accepted Answer

Treat it as urgent. Take the piece off, keep it somewhere safe, and bring it in. Tightening a loose stone is quick and inexpensive; replacing a lost diamond or emerald is not.

Can you repair antique jewelry without ruining its value?

This is our discipline. Every heirloom is photographed, measured, and structurally assessed before any flame is lit. We rebuild only what has failed, match metals and finish, and conserve original detail — because heavy-handed repair is what actually destroys antique value.

Will the repair match the rest of my piece?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We match the alloy and color of the original metal, and white gold pieces are re-rhodium plated after work so the seam disappears. On pieces that mix white and yellow gold, each section is matched separately.

Why does my white gold ring look yellow?

Accepted Answer

White gold is alloyed and then plated with rhodium, a bright white metal. That plating wears naturally over years of daily wear, and the warmer underlying gold begins to show through. Replating restores the crisp white finish — a routine, inexpensive service.

Can a broken chain be repaired invisibly?

Accepted Answer

In nearly all cases, yes. The break is soldered with matched metal, then filed and polished so the link moves and shines like its neighbors. Worn clasps and jump rings — the most common failure point on any chain — are replaced entirely.

Can titanium or tungsten rings be repaired or resized?

Accepted Answer

No — these industrial metals can't be soldered or stretched the way gold and platinum can. If your ring no longer fits, we'll talk through the options honestly: a replacement band, or in some designs, a sizing sleeve.

Do you replace lost or chipped stones?

Accepted Answer

We do. We source natural, ethically sourced stones matched to the piece in size, color, and character — and we show you the stone for approval before it's ever set. If you have a replacement stone of your own, we're happy to set that too.

Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?

Accepted Answer

Walk in Tuesday through Friday, 10 to 5, for a free inspection and a quote. Saturdays are by appointment. If you can't come in, send photos through our inquiry form — we'll give you a preliminary assessment and put a consultation on the calendar.

Will repairing my ring hurt its value?

Accepted Answer

Done correctly, the opposite. A structurally sound, honestly repaired piece is worth more — and wearable. A botched repair or unnecessary replacement of original detail is what lowers value. We document everything we do, so your records stay complete for insurance and resale.

Pieces worn daily — engagement rings especially — should be checked every six months; everything else once a year. A bench inspection takes minutes, costs nothing, and catches prong wear long before a stone is at risk.
